Love Rosie by Cecelia Ahern

This novel was previously published as Rosie Dunne and Where Rainbows Ends. I guess many of you had watched the movie version of this novel right? In general this novel is about Rosie and Alex whom had been best friend since the age of 5. Ever since then they had never separated until one day Alex and his family had to move to Boston where his father got transferred to a better job. Despite being thousands miles away from each other, they managed to keep up with each other life be it in weddings, funerals, baptism and more. They keep in touch via emails and letters. That is where I found it cute. I had always been the person who prefer the conventional way of relationship and this novel portrayed it perfectly. Love it much. They know each other too well to the point where lying does not work for them.

I will not compare it with the movie as I believe that the writer had come out with the best script and story line. So as for the novel, I am quite disappointed with the fact they finally reunited at the age of 50. They missed the opportunities for 45 years! It was quite long you know. BUT I decided to let it pass since the message is there and the whole mixed up feelings the writers’ portrayed was felt deeply by me as a reader. Alex for me is a very calm guy and he knows what he wants. BUT he can be clueless sometimes and he has to many what if’s. If only he confronted Rosie about their kiss on Rosie’s birthday, things might turn out differently. Well they will underwent awkward phase and what not but at least she is aware of his feeling towards her. It will make her think about it no matter how hard she try to deny it. He can still convinced her, flirts with her and I dont know anything so that they can be together.

Rosie on the other hand is so DAMN OBLIVIOUS! I mean she failed to notice things that happening around her. She finally come to her senses once she got pregnant. She finally realized people around her and by then she started seeing Alex differently. She should have noticed it sooner. But then they are best friends so it is NORMAL to hesitate when it comes to deep feeling. I love how her character grows from the teens Rosie to a grown up Rosie. Alex is the soft type I think and Rosie is more outspoken. Look at how many emails Rosie send to Alex constantly giving him updates though Alex isn’t replying. While Alex, he was swayed with his feeling that there were times he totally shut Rosie out.( Honestly I dont know how to explain this)!

The siblings relationship( I LOVE IT) though the little brother is so annoying and irresponsible and ugh! I love how close and supportive Rosie and her sister are. Though they were thousand miles away but they know each other by heart. Constantly updating each other. Rosie supports her sister to drop everything and move to Paris and her sister too on how supportive she is when she was having a hard time during her pregnancy with Katie. Then for me, Alex is like a father figure to Katie. Like she told everything to Alex and I found their relationship so priceless and cute. Not every godfather/mother were closed to their goddaughter/son. CUTE!

BTW without they realizing it, THEY ACTUALLY ACT MORE LIKE A COUPLE RATHER THAN A FRIEND! Making life decisions and what not, sharing problems, discussing the solutions and more. That’s how valuable their friendship are. This is how every married couple should practice in maintaining their relationship. Come to think of it, it is kinda true that man and woman can never be best friend. They might fell in love or fell out of love. It might works for some people but honestly it is more to platonic relationship. Still there will be a little flirty thingy going on.

“Choosing the person you want to share your life with is one of the most important decisions any of us makes. Ever. Because when it’s wrong, it turns your life to grey. And sometimes, sometimes you don’t even notice until you wake up one morning, and realize years have gone by. We both know about that one, Alex. Your friendship has brought glorious technicolor to my life. It’s been there in the darkest of times, and I am the luckiest person alive for that gift. I hope I didn’t take it for granted. I think maybe I did, because sometimes you don’t see that the best thing that’s ever happened to you is sitting there, right under your nose. But that’s fine too. It really is. Because I’ve realized that no matter where you are, or what you’re doing, or who you are with, I will always honestly truly completely love you”

P/s: If You Love someone, GO FOR IT! Dont HESITATE!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Ouch! The worst camera resolution ever.

So this is the second book of Rowells I have read. The first one is Eleanor and Park. I am quite frustrated with the ending but yeah whatever I am satisfied with the story line so the ending doesnt matter.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. It has this witty feelings and it gave me butterflies. It is basically about two identical twins named Cath and Wren on how they catch up with the college life, how they handle emotions and dealing with people around them and the most important part is on how they learn how to accept other people in their lives. In this case, Wren adapt faster than Cath. All this while, they have been doing things together and when they went to college, Wren decided not to be label as a pair anymore with Cath. She wanted to explore and try out new things. As for Cath, she is very reserved and I think it is okay to say that she is an introvert person. Wren started ignoring her and Cath had difficulties to accept this new changing. This is when she started mingling with Reagan Levi. Not that she ignoring them before. She talk to them but only when it is neccessary. Reagan started the whole thing like ask her to eat at cafeteria together and Levi being friendly like although he is constantly being ignored by Cath, well he still make an effort to talk to her and capture her attention.

So Why it is named as Fangirl? because Cath is a big fan of Simon and Baz and she wrote a fanfic about them and she is actually quite popular too. Then what else? oh yeah! Her relationship with Levi. hmmm OH MY GOD! LEVI IS  A BAE! I want HIM! A BOY FRIEND LIKE HIM. COPY PASTE hahaha In my opinion, Levi is  a calm and a cool guy and indeed a caring guy. So Cath had a group assignment with this one guy from her class and she usually discussed with that guy at the library and usually it is at night. Levi seems worried about her and he be like ” Okay, if you are done, call your room and i’ll pick you up from the library and walk you to your room”.EVERY SINGLE TIME.  Oh i found it sweet and sweet and sweet. Then Cath is kinda obsessed with Simon and Baz and i think that is so sweet of him to listen to her fanfic and have a little discussions about her writing together. I love it too when Cath read to Levi. He can’t read books not that he cannot recognize the letters but he foundn it hard to finish a book so what Cath did is She read to him and Levi listened to it till the end. MAJOR LOVE here! I think because of them ( Reagan and Levi), Cath learnt to you know mingle around and open up to other people and not become reserved anymore. Slowly changing and trying to balance her life with friends, college and her me time.

As for Wren, i understood that she wanted to be herself and she is trying to find her own identity  but she went overboard and without realizing that she indirectly hurt people (close one) around her. People who definitely be there when needed. She doesnt want to be label as a typical twin who did things together and stuck together but she forgot that in a process of finding your identity it doesnt give you any right to totally shut off people who are close to you. Well it depends actually whom you want to shut off but if it is your close family particularly your identical twin then you should think twice.Again it is how you manage yourself and how you handle people surrounds you.

Lastly, here are the quotes ( my FAV) from this book:

  • ” You’re my best friend.You know. Built in . For Life”
  • “Read to me sweetheart”
  • “I need a brain that can break away, you know? I need to think, If I cant think, Who am I?”
  • ” Because I am the kind of girl who fantasizes about being trapped in a library overnight”
  • “I choose you over everyone”
  • “You are magic”
  • “In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers to explain to you. ( And the one you cant GOOGLE)”
  • ” That moment when you realize that a guy’s looking at you differently – that you are taking up more space in his field of vision. That moment when you know he can’t see past you anymore”
  • “To really be a nerd, she’d decided, you had to prefer fictional worlds to the real one

Well I Love this book. There are more quotes that i like but the one i mentioned above are the one I like the most.

Physics Of The Future by Michio Kaku

I decided to start my january reads by re-reading one of the books by Michio Kaku. I started developing my interests in physics through one of murakami’s book. I had always been a fan of Michio Kaku and I thought that why not I try reading his book. It was hard at first, as this book is insanely heavy at least for me. It was like you were trying to digest a physics textbook with all those theories mentioned in this book. I tried my very best to finish it and I like it. Well, I am not going to lie with the facts that I procrastinate occasionally during my journey in finishing this book and it is safe to say that it was worth it and I terribly and honestly like it. Then, I found someone who happened to like physics so much that he could come out with so many theories about black holes, gravitational waves, carbon emissions and stuff. It was fun as I could share my current reads with him and also help me to clarify things that I could not understand. Okay enough with that.

ahhh okay, this book basically take the readers to actually imagine and experience what is like to be in the YEAR 2100. Yeah in other words as stated at the cover of the books “How Science Will Shape Human Destiny And Our Daily Lives By The Year 2100”. Kaku described each developments in details and it was beyond my imaginations. He divided it into :

  • Future of the Computer
  • Future of AI
  • Future of Medicine
  • Nanotechnology
  • Future of Energy
  • Future of Space Travel
  • Future of Wealth
  • Future of Humanity
  • A day in the life in 2100

and then while describing each of it, he divided it into Near Future ( Present to 2030), Mid Century (2030-2070) and Far Future (2070-2100). It was fun to imagine how it is like if any of this research success though I am not sure I could be able to witness any of this when its happened. His books has made me dig onto physics theories such as the Einstein Theory, Particle Accelerator and more.

Lots of things to share but here is my TOP 5 Future Development as we reach the Year 2100.

  1. Kaku mentioned that there will be a driverless car. He mentioned that the car will be able to sense dangers. He mentioned that many had died or injured during car accidents because the driver fell asleep especially at night and during a long journey. The computer could focus on our eyes and recognise whether our eyes is in the awake state or a dowsy state. The computer is programmed to make sounds and wake us up and if it fails then the computer will take over the car.
  2. Kaku mentioned that there will be a DNA chips that could help monitor our health. Our toilet, room mirror and clothes will have DNA chips that will help to identify whether we have a cancer or not.
  3. Flexible Electronic Paper : Kaku mentioned that we will not be needing a heavy laptop computers anymore. He mentioned that in future we could fold up the laptops and put it in our wallets. Then, he also mentioned that the PC screens would be totally transparents where we could be staring at the window and then wave at it and it will change into a PC screen.
  4. Medical Care: The MRI machines will be as small as our handphone and then by passing one over our body, we could already see our inside organs.
  5. Living in a Fairytale : Kaku mentioned that in the future we could re-engineers our body. We could replace our organs and also change our appearance up to the genetic levels.

phew, honestly this is the only future development that I could remember and there are many more inside the books. I am trying hard to memorise what I am reading so this is it.Ha ha ha.

P/s: Excuse my English, I am still learning. 🙂
